Admission Process

Since choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child, we require that all prospective parents visit before applying for admission.

Step One: TOUR / OBSERVATION Contact Doris Roman, Director of Admission at 856-461-2121 to schedule a visit which will include a tour of the campus, viewing a short video about Montessori and observing classes in action.  The School head, Mrs. Fox, will also meet with you to provide you with further information about who we are, and our philosophy and method of education as well as answer your questions.  So that you will be able to give your full attention to the presentations, this initial visit is for adults only; your child will visit at another time.  Tours and class observations are offered on selected Tuesdays at 8:15am and last for approximately 90 minutes.

Step Two: APPLICATION  Submit a completed Application for Admission together with a $100.00 non-refundable application fee. We have rolling enrollment; therefore applications are accepted throughout the year.

Step Three: INTERVIEW Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you to schedule a time for your child to visit the classroom and interact with the teachers, while, you are given the opportunity to share pertinent information about your child and have any further questions answered.  The teachers present lessons as a way to get to know your child, assessing some of your child’s interests and learning styles and determine your child's readiness for classroom experience.

ADMISSION DECISION You will be notified of the admission decision within a week of the interview. A deposit of 10% of the annual tuition is due within two weeks of being notified of acceptance in the school. If an appropriate space is not available, the student will be then placed in the Wait Pool, to be contacted when space becomes available.

CRITERA FOR ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS

  • Appropriate age of the child:

            - 18 months to 2 1/2 years for the Toddler Program

            - 2 years 9 months to 3 years 9 months for the Primary Program

            - 6 to 9 years of age for the Elementary Program

            - 12 years for the Adolescent Program

  • Parents' commitment to have their child complete the cycle for the program for which they are applying.

Children 4 years of age or older, who are not transferring from another Montessori program, will be considered for admission on an individual basis and requires Parents to submit a letter of commitment to continue their child's education at Montessori Academy through the elementary grades.

Admission to the elementary program is based on completion of the primary program. Exceptions are made on an individual basis at the discretion of the School Head. Consideration for admission is based on available vacancy to keep the classrooms balanced as to age and gender.

Preference is given to applicants for the Toddler Program who intend to continue into the Primary Program.

The Fall entrance of students new to the school may be staggered over a six week period, up to and possibly including, the middle of October. Students entering during this period are subject to full tuition.

An adjustment period is expected for all new students entering the Toddler or Primary program whether they start in September or mid-year. Experience has shown that young children need short increments of time to establish procedures, ground rules and comfort in new situations, therefore all new Toddler and Primary students attend for one hour for their first five days.

STATEMENT OF POLICY Montessori Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sex or personal origin in the acceptance of students, the consideration for financial aid or employment of personnel.
